The Nursing Editors History Project is being developed and led by Dr. Leslie H. Nicoll and Dr. Peggy L. Chinn. Both are current Editors-in-Chief of scholarly nursing journals, and bring a combined 50+ years of experience to this project.
Dr. Nicoll has three degrees in nursing: Russell Sage College (BS), the University of Illinois (MS), and Case Western University (PhD) as well as MBA from the University of New Hampshire. She is the Editor-in-Chief of CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing (since 1995) and Nurse Author & Editor. From 2001-2009 she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing. She is the author of numerous articles and several books, including the forthcoming Editor’s Handbook, 2nd ed. (co-authored with Margaret Comerford Freda) and Writing in the Digital Age (co-authored with Peggy Chinn). Dr. Nicoll is active in the International Academy of Nursing Editors. She owns her own business, Maine Desk LLC, which provides editorial consulting and support to both new and established authors.
Dr. Chinn earned her undergraduate nursing degree at the University of Hawaii, and her Master’s degree in Child Health and her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah. She is the founding Editor of the journal Advances in Nursing Science (1978 to present). She also served as acting Editor of Nursing Outlook from November 1991 through June 1993. Since the publication of her first book “Child Health Maintenance: Concepts in Family-Centered Care” in 1974, she has authored a number of books and journal articles related to nursing theory and knowledge development, feminism and nursing, feminist group process, nursing education, and LGBT health. She was part of the small group of nursing journal editors when INANE was founded, and became actively involved after her retirement from the University of Connecticut in 2003.
